We can't wait to introduce you to the Mountain Lion Family. Orientation is where you will learn about campus resources, become familiar with campus, and most importantly register for classes with help from Academic Advising. Our transfer orientations are designed to maximize our time together and are completed in 4 hours. We encourage you attend the earliest orientation that works with your schedule so you have the pick of classes that will work with your busy life.

About Orientation

If you have 1) completed college courses after high school graduation, 2) are 21 years of age or older and have not completed college courses after high school graduation, or 3) have been accepted as a transfer student to UCCS, you are eligible for an orientation session, which will get you familiar with campus and answer many other important questions.

At orientation, you will:

  • Register for classes (find more information here)
  • Learn about available campus resources
  • Meet other students, faculty, and staff on campus
  • Attend the optional veteran and military briefing to assist current and former active-duty military members utilize their military benefits to attend UCCS, and learn how UCCS can support them in their transition to college.
  • Meet your academic advisor (Please note: Students are assigned an academic advisor based on their major. Advising at orientation will be done in a group setting. Before you arrive for orientation your advisor will review your transfer coursework and make course recommendations for the upcoming semester based on your major. Staff will assist you to create a schedule for the upcoming semester before you leave orientation. After attending an orientation you can schedule a one-on-one appointment with your advisor if needed.)

Register for your orientation by signing up for a scheduled session via the Orientation website.

If you are unable to attend a scheduled orientation session, please contact the Orientation office as soon as possible via email (orientation@uccs.edu) or phone (719.255.3098).

Every UCCS orientation has a supplemental parent and family program designed to also help you, a parent, family member, or supporter. Each orientation will begin with students and family members together for the first half of the orientation. We will then separate students and guests for the second half of orientation to provide specific information for the different groups. While students are engaging in team building activities and registering for classes, parents and family members are engaged in a supplemental program intentionally designed to assist you with your own unique questions and concerns related to having your student go to college. Learn more about these special orientation sessions here.

Orientation sessions typically last four hours and happen in the morning or afternoon. See our typical orientation schedules here.

Before each orientation session, you must complete specific requirements. On the day of the session, it is good to know specifics about our campus. You must also bring specific documentation, like a photo ID or Passport. Please see our Orientation checklist to make sure you are prepared for orientation day.
