Policies
We want to fuel your success
That’s why we have developed detailed academic policies, as well as guidelines on registration and student records. Each policy is built to fuel success and fairness for all students. If you have questions about certain policies, find answers on this page or via the UCCS 2019-2020 Academic Catalog.
Additional Information
How certain exams can help you obtain credit
UCCS offers different options for obtaining credit for various tests, including Advanced Placement (AP) tests, International Baccalaureate (IB) tests, the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) tests, and DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST). Read our section about test score information.
What to do if your coursework is not accepted
There is a procedure for appealing a decision involving the acceptance of coursework from a Colorado community college for credit toward a degree. The first step is filing an appeal and waiting for a response. If not resolved, a student may appeal to the Colorado Department of Education. Contact Academic Advising for more information.
Information for specific students
- UCCS provides veteran and military students the option of having their military transcripts reviewed for undergraduate academic credit and/or course waiver. The UCCS Military Transfer Credit Policy creates a comprehensive transfer credit package for veteran and military students who have served in the United States Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, Navy or Coast Guard.
- The Military Transfer Credit policy is designed to reflect the academic content obtained through military instruction, including, but not limited to, basic training, noncommissioned, and staff noncommissioned officers courses, leadership training classes, international deployments, military language institutes, and the military equal opportunity programs (EOP). For students seeking to enter professional colleges (i.e. Nursing, Engineering, Business), military transfer credits can fulfill many elective requirements. However, if elective requirements are complete, this may limit the options for course selections during your program. This can be an issue for students who need to keep a full-time course load for GI Bill usage. Each student is encouraged to talk with an advisor to learn more about this option.
International/Foreign Post-Secondary Transcripts. We require transcripts from each and every collegiate institution attended during and after graduation from high school. Applicants with course-work from any foreign college must submit a course-by-course foreign transcript evaluation by a NACES member in order for such coursework to be considered for transfer credit at UCCS. (Please note: Official evaluations received directly from WES and ECE credential agencies may enable more efficient review and processing of transfer credit by UCCS.)
If you are an out-of-state community college student, begin by reviewing our advising guides, broken down by each UCCS college. These guides are meant to help you choose the right courses and graduate with your chosen degree more quickly.
If you are an out-of-state community college student that lives in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, or Montana, the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) program offers a unique opportunity to study in Colorado for the cost of in-state tuition.
UCCS has developed a transfer program that allows California Community College students to complete standard Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) requirements, then transfer to UCCS and complete their undergraduate degree program in selected programs in the College of Letters, Arts & Sciences. See the UCCS General IGETC Transfer Guide page for more information about the transfer program and applicable majors. Please find out more information about WUE here.
